The Bhut Jolokia (or Ghost Pepper, C. chinense) originated from different regions in India. It is supposedly an interspecies hybrid of C. chinense and C. frutescens genes (but mostly C. chinense). In 2007, Guinness World Records certified it was the world’s hottest chili pepper. In 2012, the Bhut Jolokia was superseded by the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper. While hot, the Bhut Jolokia has a wonderful smokey, fruity quality that makes it great for powders, sauces and salsas. Our Bhut Jolokia plants tend to be extremely prolific.
